She peered out the window, trying to collect her thoughts. "What is the meaning of all of this and what is weighing so heavily on my soul?" she wondered, noticing how majestic the full moon looked as its light made the clouds around it glow brilliantly. She didn't know the answers to her questions, only that whatever was causing her distress had been doing so for many, many years.
In fact, she couldn't remember a time when she didn't feel like this. The intensity of it changes and fluctuates, given the outer circumstances of her life and how much healing work she'd done, but it was always there, her faithful companion.
Speaking of faithful companion, her dog, Gypsy, came trotting merrily over to her and rested her little brown head on her arm. "What is it, Gyps? Are you looking to solve the mysteries of life, too?" The dog just wagged her tail and gave her owner a playful lick as if to say, "I like the attention. Please give me more!" She laughed and rubbed Gypsy's head. "I'd love to play with you, Gyps, but my soul is in distress and I have so much reflecting to do." As she was saying this, Gypsy had gone and retrieved her leash and brought it back to her. This made her laugh even harder. "Oh, alright, a little fresh air can't hurt, I suppose." She put the leash on her pet and out the door they went.
Enjoying the crisp, fall air, and walking under the moonlight, she once again felt the tugging of her soul. "Why can't I just be like Gypsy, totally at peace and in the moment, not a care in the world?" Just then, a big dog barked aggressively from one of the neighboring houses. Gypsy hid behind her owner, her tail drooped. She laughed and scooped the little dog up into her arms.
Gypsy wanted down only after they had passed the big, angry dog's house. Then she was right back to her old self: lots of sniffing, tail wagging and exploring. Her owner smiled and thought to herself, "Well, I guess we all have our problems. Maybe the trick is to not try to wish them away or dwell on them too much, but, rather, let them pass on their own." She smiled up at the moon and felt her heart burst with joy as this new awareness sank deeply into her soul.
